I've been seriously considering the purchace of a new Royal Enfield. Went up to North Jersey today to have a look at one .......nice stuff. Mind you these are new design engines mated to the vintage Royal Enfield frame, approx 500cc. Input anyone?

I have a friend that owns one. I'll reach out to him to see what he has to say. He's had it over 2 years and paid about $4500.00 US for it.

Some additional items on purchasing a specialty bike.

If you plan to ride the bike a lot or take it on long trips, you need to think about where the dealers are located in case it needs major service. Harley dealers are everywhere and the same goes for the Japanese big 4 (Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki & Kawasaki) but when you you start looking at the smaller manufacturers (Moto Guzzi, MV Agusta, Royal Enfield, Can-Am, Ducati, KTM, Kymco) you may not be able to find someone to fix your bike if you break down while on a long trip.

Some of the specialty manufacturers sell less than 3000 bikes a year in the U.S. Something to think about when go out to get your first bike.

I've heard that the new Enfields are light years better than previous models, fun to ride but not the best for long trips.  Reliability is improved, but it appears to appeal to retro fans who are good with wrenches, want a second bike, and savor a retro ride.  They do have some nice classic lines.  You also might want to check out the new Triumph Bonneville lines at Freehold Triumph, super reliable, fuel injected, sensibly priced and lots of options, models, and goodies, along with a great pedigree, and two year warranty.  And that awsome Triumph sound.

You might also be more original and have a look at the new Moto Guzzi models. They have some real discounts right now and are being manufactured by brilliant engineers, Aprilia engineers. Being in a small group means being more united and helpful to each other.

+1 on the Guzzi - always a top performer, respected worldwide, quiet and reliable.  Couldn't hurt to look at a few.....esp. discounted.

At Approx $6500.00 US and with a two year warranty I believe I'll cast my lot with a new Enfield ......not quite sure wether it will be a C5 or G5....

Ah well, my first love was not to be. In honour of another "Snowstorm from Hell" I purchased a V Star Silverado, 650 cc. 2008 model fully dressed. Got a great price on it, having it delivered to me next week. The Royal Enfield was put out due to it's engine size, just 500 cc, I still love the style. At any rate the Silverado will be my first bike and I'm very exited. Come on Spring time.......

Managed to put on ten miles on the Silverado last Saturday and at this point it may be a while befor any more are racked up.......I should have bugged the salesman for a deal on a snowblower while dealing for the bike
